Environment Awards

Norman Lamb MP with a winner of the 2009 Environment Awards Over the last 18 years North Norfolk District Council has recognised environmental achievements across the District, through its annual Environment Awards. This year we hope to attract a high number of entries, each with a chance of winning the £500 first prize and plaque recognizing their achievements.

The award is in the name of former councillor John Sweeney, who championed many environmental issues and was the signatory, on behalf of North Norfolk District Council, of the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change in 2001.

Entries are invited for any projects which have resulted in an improvement to the natural environment in the district, or protection of the local and global environment. This could be through cutting carbon emissions and pollutants, improving natural or green spaces, raising environmental awareness and educating others on the environment, reducing waste or increasing recycling, or even installing renewable technologies.

Examples:

  • Community groups who have cleared overgrown amenity areas or educated local residents on energy use.
  • Schools who have created outdoor learning environments or worked to engage students in ‘green’ issues.
  • Businesses who have cut their energy use or encouraged the use of green products and services.
  • Developers or owners of buildings designed with renewable and low-carbon technologies.

For an informal discussion about entering the awards, please contact Peter Lumb on 01263 516331, email sustainability@north-norfolk.gov.uk or speak to your local district councillor.
