Inspection of Businesses

Premises are inspected for health and safety based on risk. The frequency of the visits depends on the number of hazards and how they are controlled. The greater the number of hazards, and the less they are controlled, the greater the number of visits a business will receive.

If you require advice on good practice for your business or wish to make a complaint about any premises you have visited, contact the North Norfolk District Council Commercial Team. Tel: (01263) 516008.

Investigation of Accidents and Incidents

Accidents and incidents that occur at work, or in connection with work activities, are investigated by either the Commercial Team or the Health and Safety Executive to prevent their recurrence. The level of investigation will be dependent on the severity of the accident.

For guidance on whether an accident should be reported to us, contact the Commercial Team on (01263) 516008. Generally the following events fall within the guidelines for reporting events, which are done via the Incident Contact Centre on (0845) 300 9923 (or use the link above):

  • fatalities;
  • specified major injuries;
  • injuries that result in absence from work for over three days;
  • injuries to a member of the public who is taken to hospital for treatment directly from the premises;
  • dangerous occurrences;
  • industrial diseases.

Complaints

Complaints about health and safety at work are investigated by the Commercial team and action taken where necessary. The level of investigation will be dependent on the severity of the findings.
