Welcome to North Norfolk District Council's Private Sector Housing Service.
This page details how we work to ensure that all residents of privately owned or rented homes in North Norfolk have an opportunity to live in a decent home.

- Grants for disabled adaptations
- Inspection and enforcement of standards of repair in privately rented homes
- Licensing of Houses of Multiple Occupation
- Inspection of houses split into flats, bed-sits and hostels to ensure they have adequate amenities and protection in case of fire
- Encouragement advice and incentives to owners of empty homes to bring them back into use
- Promotion of energy efficiency and referral to sources of grant assistance to improve the energy efficiency of homes in the private sector
- Home Improvement Agency - a scheme to help vulnerable people who want to remain independent and continue to live in the home of their choice. This is achieved by supporting you throughout the repair, adaptation or improvement process, enabling you to remain in your own home in a warm, safe and secure environment. This also includes helping you access appropriate financial advice.

The grant covers the cost of adaptations to allow the disabled applicant to continue to live in their home.

- Empty Homes Grant (.pdf 26kb)
A grant to encourage owners of empty properties that have been empty for 12 months or more to carry out repair or renovation works to bring them back into use
- Landlords Loan (.pdf 27kb)
A loan to assist Landlords of residential accommodation (in Houses of Multiple Occupation) maintain the property in a safe and reasonable condition
- Disabled Facilities Loan - A loan to assist disabled owner occupiers adapt their home, where the works fall outside the mandatory scope of a disabled facilities grant , or to meet the applicants assessed financial contribution towards a disabled facilities grant.
- Our Service Policy
We will:-
- Investigate all complaints about housing conditions and disrepair within five working days
- Contact you within 5 working days of receipt of your grant enquiry to offer a visit
- Offer appointment times for all inspections/visits and keep you informed of progress throughout the period of your request
- Treat you fairly and with the highest standard of respect and care
- Ensure that officers dealing with your enquiry use their discretion and diplomacy and treat each enquiry with strict confidence
- Arrange for an interpreter for people whose first language is not English
- Arrange Assistance for those who are hard of hearing or blind
