A Sure Start for Poppyland Children

Parents of young children in the east of North Norfolk are being asked how they would like local services and facilities improved to help guarantee their children a 'sure start' in life.

The views of parents are being sought before the 'Poppyland Sure Start' programme begins in earnest in April next year. Aimed at providing support for children under four years of age, the government-funded scheme will develop children's ability to learn, improve social and emotional well-being, improve health, and strengthen families and communities.

Sure Start is for children and their families who live in the country's most disadvantaged areas. In North Norfolk, the scheme will benefit up to 600 children who live in Cromer, Suffield Park, Overstrand, Sidestrand, Trimingham, Gimingham, Trunch, Mundesley, Paston, Bacton, Knapton, Keswick, Walcott, Happisburgh, Dilham, Lessingham, Swafield, Honing, East Ruston and Witton.

Questionnaires have been distributed in a variety of public venues in the above areas, such as shops, libraries, doctors' surgeries and council offices. "We need to know what parents want in the way of improved healthcare provision, transport and childcare services," said Trisha Mills, Poppyland Researcher. "Only by consulting with those concerned can we target the money where it is most needed, and so improve opportunities for many of the district's children."

Completed questionnaires should be posted in the many drop-boxes in the area by Thursday, 12 December. All questionnaires received will be entered in a special draw, with voucher prizes worth £50, £30 and £20.
