Building with Lime1 April, 2004A seminar for home owners and building professionals A two-day seminar to provide builders, architects, surveyors and property owners with up-to-date information about the use of lime when repairing, adapting and preserving old buildings is to be held in North Norfolk in May. The event, which is being organised by the Building Limes Forum Eastern Regional Group with the support of North Norfolk District Council, will include illustrated lectures, discussions and practical demonstrations by craftsmen and women who regularly use lime in their traditional building methods. "Lime-based materials played an important role, both physically and aesthetically, in the construction of most old buildings, ranging from historic stately homes to humble boundary walls," said Gary Linder, NNDC's Senior Conservation and Design Officer. "Happily, home owners and people in the building trade are now becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of using lime for repairs, and there is a growing demand for such materials. However, the basic understanding of how to get the best results from lime is not keeping pace with this demand for its use. "The special seminar next month has been designed to bridge that gap by providing the latest 'best practice' information about the use of lime. It will be of great interest not only to professionals in the industry, but also to property owners who wish to have their homes repaired or preserved in the best traditional way." The 'Introduction to the use of Building with Lime' seminar will be held in The Pleasaunce, Harbord Road, Overstrand, Cromer on 14 and 15 May. It will cost £49 for a single day, or £90 for both days, including lunch and refreshments. For more information about the seminar and/or to reserve a place, please contact Sue Bacon of the Building Limes Forum on 01263 837672, or NNDC's Conservation and Design Section on 01263 516155.
