Green Build 2004 - Advice on Building with Sustainability in Mind

13 April, 2004

People looking to construct, renovate or decorate buildings can get advice on how to do so in an environmentally-friendly way, at a special event organised by North Norfolk District Council next week.

'Green Build 2004' is an exhibition bringing together experts and companies espousing sustainable construction methods and materials, from linseed-based paints to energy conservation systems and solar power.

The event is a repeat of a successful event last year, and will be held at Binham Memorial Village Hall on Friday and Saturday, 23 and 24 April, from 10.30am to 4.30pm. The hall was itself a Green Building category winner in NNDC's Environment Awards four years ago.

Green Build 2004 is designed to help people who are intending to carry out building or renovation work to consider the environmental impact of the design and materials they use, and how they can build energy-efficiency into their projects - with, potentially, real cost savings.

On the first day, Friday 23 April, Green Build 2004 is open by invitation only to those involved in the building trade, and to schools and other education establishments. During the day, NNDC's new Sustainable Construction Action Plan - the Council's own commitment to undertake building work in a way that is respectful of the environment - will be launched by Councillor Simon Partridge who will, by then, be the Council's new Leader.

On the Saturday, the exhibition is open to the public. Admission is free, and there will be a free 'park and ride' from NNDC's offices on Holt Road in Cromer, leaving for Binham at 10am, 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm.

Saturday's events include a talk at 10.30am by award-winning green designers and builders Creative Construction, and a presentation by Nottingham eco-home renovator Penney Poyzer at 2.15pm. There will also be short talks and demonstrations throughout the day by several companies and organisations including Earth and Reed, Linseed Paints, Anglia East Energy Advice, Eastern Bio Compacting Fuels, Green Build, Warmcel and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.

Also on Saturday, NNDC officers will be on hand to offer advice on planning, architecture and design, building control, home energy ratings and heating.

The National Energy Foundation's 'Green Energy Machine' will be set up outside the hall, demonstrating solar and wind power at work, and the Momo Theatre Company will provide entertainment with a green theme from 11am onwards.
