Building a Better Environment - Green Build 2005

8 April, 2005

Find out about green features that can save energy and protect the environment at the Green Build 2005 exhibition at Sheringham Park on Saturday and Sunday, 16 and 17 April.

The exhibition, open from 10.30am to 4pm both days, will give the public and the building trade the chance to discover how new buildings and renovation projects alike can benefit from environmentally-friendly materials, energy-saving (and therefore money-saving) features, and construction methods that contribute to sustainability. There will also be demonstrations and advice from experts on all aspects of the building process, from design and planning to decorating, furnishing, and recycling.

The exhibition will be held in the new (and eco-friendly) visitors' centre at the National Trust-owned Sheringham Park. Entrance to the exhibition is free, though there is a charge for parking.

Momo Theatre will provide entertainment on both days with its Slips and Trips green build show (not the Renewable Energy Show as previously advertised). The Norfolk Wildlife Trust, the National Trust and Creativity Works 4 U will run eco-themed activities for all ages. The National Trust will give guided tours of the site all weekend (booking advised - contact Frances Francis, details below). Activities will also include practical demonstrations of earth, lime and straw building, and the National Energy Foundation's Green Energy Machine with fun ways of showing how energy-saving features work.

The Saturday is aimed more at the building trade, with some specialist talks and stands. On the Saturday, Tom Ground, architect of the new visitors' centre at Sheringham Park, will give a talk on the building project at 10.30am, followed by eco-architect Jerry Harrall giving a talk on his local projects at 12.30pm.

On the Sunday there will be an open meeting about installing solar water heating features as self-build projects. Contact Paul Bourgeois on 01603 430598 or email paul.bourgeois@broadland.gov.uk to attend this meeting.
