Carers' Information Days - Caring for the Carers

19 September, 2005

A series of drop-in days is being run next month (October) across North Norfolk, to help those who look after people who are ill, disabled or frail.

The four drop-in carers' information days will be held in local surgeries, and will give carers the chance to find out what support is available to them and how they can get it, who they can contact if they need advice, and what benefits are available to them to make their lives easier.

Staff from the local branch of carers' support charity Crossroads and representatives of the Norwich and District Carers Forum will be on hand to answer questions at the following times and places:

• Fakenham Medical Practice, Greenway Lane - Thursday, 6 October, 10am to 4.30pm
• Hoveton and Wroxham Medical Centre, Stalham Road - Monday, 10 October, 10am to 4.30pm
• Cromer Group Surgery, Overstrand Road - Thursday, 13 October, 10am to 4.30pm
• Wells Health Centre, Bolts Close - Monday, 17 October, 10am to 4.30pm

Specialist advisors will also be available at each information day:
Occupational Health - 10.30 am to 12 noon
Benefits Advisor - 2pm to 3pm

Carers can just call into their nearest surgery on the dates above to see what is available. No appointment is necessary.

They can also request a special Carer's Pack on the day, and have their names added to their surgery's register of people who are carers, so they can ensure they get the support they need in the future.

Those who cannot attend the drop-in days can ask for a Carer's Pack at their surgery at any time, or call Norfolk's 24-hour Carers' Helpline on 0808 808 9876.

• For more information, contact Elizabeth Hargest, Carers Advisor, Norwich and District Carers Forum, on 01603 219924.
