Green Build Event to Promote Sustainable Construction19 January, 2006North Norfolk District Council's award-winning annual Green Build event will take place in the picturesque surroundings of the National Trust-owned Sheringham Park on 29 and 30 April this year. The exhibition gives businesses involved in sustainable construction, renovation and the eco-home a chance to show off their products and services to members of the public. If you would like to exhibit for free at Green Build 2006, please call the event's organiser, Frances Francis, on 07919 211564 or email flfgreenbuild@tiscali.co.uk The event gives information and ideas about how to design and build sustainability into self-build, renovation or DIY projects, and showcases the kind of products and services available to help lessen the environmental impact - and long-term cost - of building and/or running a home. Green Build also includes presentations from experts in the fields of planning, conservation and design, and environmentally-friendly architecture, demonstrations of different green building techniques, and family entertainments with an appropriate 'green build' message. About 4000 people visited last-year's event, when it was held for the first time at Sheringham Park, where the new visitors' centre is itself an example of sustainable construction. The exhibition runs from 10.30am to 4pm each day, and admission is free (though car parking at Sheringham Park costs £3). In November last year, NNDC was awarded a Regional Gold award in the national Green Apple awards scheme for running the Green Build event. The Green Apple awards are given annually by the Green Organisation, a non-profit group supported by the Environment Agency and other bodies. Councillor Simon Partridge, Leader of NNDC, said: "People are getting more and more ambitious about DIY and self-build projects, it seems. Green Build is a great resource for anyone who is interested in making the best use of available resources in the building phase, and to minimise running costs later."
