Enter Now for Prestigious Building Conservation Award

8 June, 2006

Sensitive renovation projects and new buildings which make innovative use of traditional features and detailing could be in line for an award from North Norfolk District Council.

Entries are now being sought for this year's Graham Allen Award, the annual NNDC award for excellence in conservation and design. The closing date for entries is Friday, 30 June, 2006.

Introduced in 1982 as a memorial to the late GS Allen, the first Chairman of NNDC, the Graham Allen Award recognises the development or restoration project which makes the biggest contribution to North Norfolk's unique built environment.

Last year's winner was the restoration and conversion of the 17th Century Byfords building in Holt which, over a period of four years, has been transformed from a busy café into an upmarket B&B, dining and retail complex.

The restoration and conversion of the Globe Inn at Wells-next-the-Sea was highly commended last year, and commendations also went to the recent extension at Kelling Primary School and the restoration and redevelopment of the Old Lifeboat House in Wells.

• For more information about the Graham Allen Award, or an entry form, call Chris Young on 01263 516138 or email cy@north-norfolk.gov.uk or see the Graham Allen Award 2006 web page.
