North Norfolk's Best Environmental Projects Recognised

14 July, 2006

North Norfolk District Council has today (Friday, 14 July) rewarded local projects for good 'green' practice through its annual Environment Awards.

Schools, businesses, community groups and 'green' buildings from across the District have been recognised, along with entrants in a new 'open' category, designed to suit the kind of projects that would not otherwise be considered.

The awards were presented at the National Trust-owned Felbrigg Hall, near Cromer. For the first time, the scheme included John Sweeney Awards, named after the late Councillor John Sweeney, a former leader of North Norfolk District Council who championed environment issues. These were given in recognition of the entrants' continuing commitment and high standards.

The winners are as follows:
GREEN BUILDING - Category supported by the CSV Action Desk at BBC Radio Norfolk

  • WINNER: Friends Meeting House, Sheringham
  • RUNNER-UP: Boundary Farm, Gunthorpe

SCHOOL - Category supported by the North Norfolk News and Dereham and Fakenham Times

  • WINNER: Millfield Primary School
  • RUNNER-UP: Langham Village School
  • RUNNER-UP: Tunstead School
  • John Sweeney Award: Colby School

COMMUNITY - Category supported by North Norfolk Radio

  • RUNNER-UP: Salthouse Heritage Orchard

Winners in those first four categories receive £250, runners-up receive £50, and other entrants not mentioned here each receive a voucher for a Norfolk apple tree.
