Help Us Name Our Giant Woodsman!![]() The giant woodsman at Holt Country Park A gentle giant now welcomes visitors to Holt Country Park, and North Norfolk District Council is asking children to help give him a name. The sculpture of a giant woodsman was unveiled at a Hallowe'en treasure trail event this week [Tuesday, 24 October, 2006], and it now looks out over the entrance and car park at the Council-owned Holt Country Park, leaning on a new fingerpost sign showing where the park's facilities and trails are. It is the work of local sculptor Mike Thody, who has created other pieces of artwork for the park in recent years. Now the Council's countryside rangers are running a competition to find a name for the giant. To enter, children simply need to fill in an entry form at the visitors' centre at Holt Country Park. Entries must be received by Christmas and the winner will receive a prize appropriate to their age. Mr Thody started work on the 11-foot sculpture in April, and used locally-sourced timber - sweet chestnut from Council-owned woodland at Pretty Corner near Sheringham for the giant's body, and a piece of yew for the head.
