Two Hours' Parking Free on Saturdays Before Christmas

27 November, 2007

Parking in North Norfolk District Council's car parks will be free for up to two hours on the four Saturdays before Christmas.

The Council has decided to waive parking fees for short stays, to help persuade local people to buy their Christmas gifts and supplies locally, to support North Norfolk's traders at this crucial time of year, and as a gesture of goodwill for the festive season.

On Saturdays 1, 8, 15 and 22 December, shoppers will be able to stay for two hours without a ticket in any District Council-run car park, as in the run-up to Christmas in recent years, saving them 60p or £1 an hour (depending upon whether it is a short-stay or long-stay car park).

Councillor Peter Moore, Cabinet Member for Resources, said: "North Norfolk District Council supports local businesses in many ways, and Christmas is critical for traders so we want to encourage people to use the wealth of shops on their doorsteps.

"Shoppers needn't travel far for gifts or food or other seasonal staples. We hope they can be persuaded to keep much of their business within North Norfolk. If we can entice shoppers from around the county to visit too, then so much the better!"
