Council Achieves Top Business Award

After 18 months of working towards a wide range of stringent targets, North Norfolk District Council has achieved the Investors in People standard, one of the top awards available to business organisations, recognising excellence in their ways of working, especially in involving and developing their staff.

The Investors in People award is an externally assessed and nationally respected standard, recognising businesses and other organisations that successfully work with and develop their own staff to ensure that they are meeting the needs and expectations of their customers. In the case of the Council, this means meeting the needs and expectations of all the residents of North Norfolk.

The external assessment took place during the week before Christmas, involving in-depth audits of the Council's processes and face-to-face interviews with nearly 50 staff and District Councillors chosen by the assessor. After consideration over the New Year the accreditation panel announced that the Council was performing well above the required standards in all ten of the areas of activity under scrutiny.

"The Council is delighted to have achieved the Investors in People standard," said Nick Baker, Strategic Director (Environment) for the Council. "Our staff are our most important resource and also our biggest cost, so it is vitally important that we recognise and develop their skills in the right areas. The award has proven that we involve them closely with the Council's overall objectives so that we can deliver the very best services possible and provide the very best value for money for the people of North Norfolk as a whole."
