Commemorating the Great Fire of Holt

Holt Country Park hosts celebrations this weekend marking 300 years since the town of Holt was ravaged by fire.

From 6pm on Saturday, 3 May, there will be a fancy-dress party in the Park with family activities including period music and participatory dancing with four-piece instrumental band Tarleton's Jig, a fire-eating demonstration by Foolhardy Circus, lantern-making with community art project Jankie D's, a bonfire and a torchlight parade through the woods.

Refreshments include slow-cooked pork from Happy Hogs, a rare breed farm near Alysham (and a vegetarian alternative), locally-brewed ales from Yetmans and wine-tasting courtesy of Adnams, home-made fruit cordials and traditional sweets. There will be prizes for the best fire-themed adult and child costumes worn on the night - and bring a torch for the parade!

The Great Fire of Holt celebration has been organised by the Holt Area Partnership in conjunction with North Norfolk District Council, which owns Holt Country Park. In the event of adverse weather, the celebration will take place at Holt Primary School.

Entry and activities are all free, except for the refreshments. Parking at Holt Country Park costs £1, but a shuttle bus will be operating from the town's Albert Street car park as well.
