Flood Siren Review in Norfolk

The views of more than 500 people living in coastal North Norfolk parishes have been passed to decision-makers who are considering the future of flood sirens in the county.

North Norfolk District Council has now published a report detailing a series of meetings with Parish representatives and Senior Flood Wardens, and the results of a consultation carried out in communities along the coast. Of about 5000 questionnaires issued to those living in coastal flood risk areas, distributed through parish and town councils, 561 were returned - an excellent return rate of 11 per cent.

The report is being considered by Norfolk County Fire and Community Protection Review Panel on Tuesday, 20 May, in conjunction with reviews conducted in the coastal districts. This will decide the future provision and use of flood sirens. The North Norfolk Flood Siren Consultation Report is available on the North Norfolk District Council website, www.northnorfolk.org. Hard copies have also been sent out to the relevant parish council clerks and senior flood wardens.

We have gathered a wealth of very useful information which has helped us build the picture of current perceptions and levels of understanding of the system."

He added: "More specific information related to the practicalities of siren sites within individual parishes has proved invaluable. I hope those who participated will feel the report is an accurate and open reflection of the views expressed within North Norfolk. Thanks must also be extended to the parish/town representatives and flood wardens for their ongoing commitment to moving this issue forward."
