Planning Permission - Information & Guides

If you want to build an extension, erect a conservatory or garage or do other work to your home, or if you want to expand your business or change the use of your premises, you may need to apply for planning permission.

Micro Wind Generators
If you wish to install a domestic wind turbine on your property, in most cases, you will require planning permission. If your property is a listed building, and the generator will be fixed to the building, a separate application for Listed Building consent will also be required.
The Government has announced that it intends to relax the legislation to make it easier for small wind turbines to be installed but this is unlikely to happen until 2007.

Talk to a planning officer about your plans

If in doubt you can check with an NNDC planning officer to be sure you do - or don't - need Planning Permission, and to ensure your application is made correctly.

While planning officers will endeavour to provide their best advice on the basis of the proposals you put forward, such advice is given without prejudice to the formal outcome of a planning application. Once a planning application is made public, other views expressed or issues raised may have a bearing on the final decision.

  • Request an Appointment with a Planning Officer or ask a Planning Officer to contact you.

  • You can attend our Planning Surgeries which are held on Thursday mornings between 9:30am and 12 noon, at our two area offices, Fakenham Connect, Oak Street, Fakenham, and New Road, North Walsham. An appointment is not necessary and a planning officer attends to give advice on all planning matters. Bring as much information as possible regarding your proposals. If you wish to inspect a planning application you should contact the Cromer office at least 1 day before the surgery, so the planning application file can be made available.
