CURRENT PRE-APPLICATION PROPOSALS:
NORTH WALSHAM, Paston College playing field, Station Road.
Proposal: New Sixth Form College facilities at Paston College.
Paston College, along with its team of professional consultants, is currently preparing a planning application to build new Sixth Form College facilities on the Station Road site in North Walsham (the College's current playing field). It is proposed that this new College development will replace its existing facilities and provide a new purpose-built, high-quality learning environment for 16 - 19 year old students across North Norfolk.
The three-storey building will include teaching, study and administrative spaces, along with "learning resource centre" (a library with IT facilities, tutor rooms and private study areas), cafe, theatre and sports hall. Outside facilities will include a floodlit multi-use games area (all-weather pitch), a full-sized rugby/football pitch and a wildlife area with pond. There will also be a car-park and a secure covered cycle parking area.

CROMER, Land to the west of the District Council's offices on Holt Road, Cromer
FAKENHAM, Land to the south of the lay-by on the A148 Holt Road, Fakenham (a distance of approximately 300 metres east of the A148 Fakenham bypass and A1067 Norwich Road (Clipbush Lane) roundabout)
Proposal: Short Stay Stopping Place (Transit site) for Gypsies and Travellers - facilities for up to 10 caravans, with hardstanding for waste skip and temporary toilets, with associated access and landscaping. For both sites the District Council is proposing the provision of a transit site (temporary stopping place) for up to ten caravans.
- Each site would have ten hard-standing 'pitches', a stand pipe for water, and hard-standing for waste and temporary toilet facilities, which would be brought on site as required.
- The sites would be landscaped to minimise visual impact and provide a level of privacy for users.
- The sites, which would be managed by the District Council's Environmental Health Team, would enable the Council to work with the Police and use wider legal powers to deal with Gypsies and Travellers who stop in inappropriate places. The maximum period of stay by an individual family or group would be three months, and a daily charge would be made for occupation of the site.
- North Norfolk District Council is proposing to make grant applications to the Government to fund the provision of the facilities.
Consultation: Public Consultation Meetings were held in November 2007 at Cromer and Fakenham, and the Draft Consultation report (February 2008) is available to view on the Council's Gypsy and Travellers site consultation page
