The new Housing Adaption Officer Apprentice post is a new post which will support the work of the Integrated Housing Adaptations Team (IHAT) and will work with colleagues from the Council and Norfolk County Council to help residents across North Norfolk adapt their homes to allow them to live independently and well.

The type of adaptations which the team can help deliver ranges from providing a ramp or some steps to the front door of a resident’s home, removing the bath to install a level access shower, widening doors or building an extension.  Each case is different and the team work with residents of all ages to help them adapt their home.

There is always something going on in the IHAT and the work will allow you to use soft skills such as developing good relationships with residents, contractors and the team as well as supporting you to get technical skills to allow you to inspect a resident’s home, draw plans showing the adaptations which will be needed and produce schedules of work.

The process of having their home changed can be stressful for some of the residents and so a caring, sympathetic and patient attitude is needed.  However, the adaptations can transform a resident’s home and make real improvements to their quality of life.  As a result, the team have very high levels of customer satisfaction and so the role is very rewarding.
