Police believe the fire was lit on Monday September 19 between 8pm and 8.15pm. It is also thought members of the public tackled and extinguished the fire
Cllr John Rest Cabinet Member for Assets said: “The Council wants to thank whoever put out this fire. Please contact us so we can thank you in person and in case you have any further information to offer the police.
“This damage was caused by mindless vandalism. At a time when we want to make sure every penny counts we have to spend money, time and energy on repairs.
“We will ensure our community and visitors have an interim solution in place as soon as possible and we appreciate everyone’s patience while we assess the damage.”
A toilet roll and toilet roll holder were set alight causing burn and smoke damage to the men’s toilet at North Lodge Park, Cromer. The women’s toilet block was unharmed and remains in use as usual.
North Norfolk District Council is arranging for two temporary toilets to be installed Wednesday outside the men’s toilet.
Cllr Rest added: “If you helped put out the fire, saw anything suspicious or know who is responsible, please come forward. We have a policy to always prosecute and we will work with the police to bring the criminal or criminals to justice.”
Any witnesses please call 01263 516054.
