The Chairman of North Norfolk District Council Cllr Richard Shepherd led a short service to celebrate Commonwealth Day.
A short service took place this morning, March 12 by the flagpole at NNDC’s Holt Road, Cromer offices followed by the raising of the Commonwealth flag.
Cllr Richard Shepherd said: “I am proud for North Norfolk District Council to join so many Commonwealth communities around the world raising our flags on March 12. Together we mark our membership of this important organisation of nations and our commitment to its shared goals.”
The event helps to celebrate the values the Commonwealth upholds, and the opportunities offered for friendship and cooperation with fellow Commonwealth citizens around the world.
Today people in Commonwealth countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe will observe Commonwealth Day. Faith and civic gatherings, debates, school assemblies, flag raising ceremonies, street parties and fashion shows are just some of the events that will help celebrate the vast diversity, strong unity and uplifting values that define the Commonwealth.
