A member of the eastlaw team at North Norfolk District Council has been crowned Governance Lawyer of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Emma Duncan, who is head of eastlaw, which is the in-house legal team at NNDC, beat off competition in the Local Government Awards from the City of Wolverhampton Legal Team in a category that was open to both individuals and teams.

The entire eastlaw team was also shortlisted in the Legal Team of the Year category alongside six other local authorities.

Emma said: “I was proud and thrilled to win the award, but I was just as proud that the whole team was also a finalist. Success in these kind of awards can be achieved only with the backing of such a great team.”

The Local Government Awards were held at the Waldorf Hilton Hotel, London.

Cllr John Lee, Leader of North Norfolk District Council and Leader of the Conservative Group at NNDC, said: "Huge congratulations to Emma on receiving this prestigious award, her guidance and advice since I became Leader has been invaluable and well done to the team for receiving further recognition of the great work that they do."

Cllr John Rest, Leader of the Independent Group at NNDC, said: “This is a very well deserved award and eastlaw are an exceptionally professional team, their experience and knowledge is of huge benefit to the Council.”
