We would like to reassure the public that we are doing everything possible to maintain access to the beach at West Runton.

Our officers have continued to monitor the situation since the fence was erected yesterday.

Now that the fence is complete we can confirm that part of it is on the Council’s land. As such, our solicitors have been instructed to write to Mr. Chambers requiring the fence on our land to be removed within 7 days.

The remainder is on unregistered land so we cannot require this to be removed. However, we continue to work to ensure and protect public access to the beach.

We have been in touch with Natural England as we believe the SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) is compromised by this structure and we will remain in contact with them.

When people act against the public interest, the Council will do everything in its power to protect that interest.
