The new Chairman and Vice-Chairman for North Norfolk District Council were chosen at a Full Council meeting this evening.
Cllr Clive Stockton will be the Chairman for May 2019 to May 2020, with Jeremy Punchard filling the Vice-Chairman position.
Cllr Stockton, who runs the Hill House Inn in Happisburgh, is the ward member for Bacton, which includes the parishes of Bacton, Walcott, Witton and Paston.
He served two terms on North Norfolk District Council from 2003 to 2011 and was re-elected in the recent Local Elections.
Cllr Stockton's wife Sue, also a former North Norfolk District Councillor, will act as his consort during his year in office.
The Chairman of the Council has both a Civic and a Council role. Responsibilities include:
- Promoting public involvement in the Council’s activities
- Being an ambassador for the district, attending civic and ceremonial functions as the district’s first citizen
- Acting as a link between the Council and various groups and organisations
- Presiding over meetings of the Full Council
