North Norfolk District Council’s Sporting Centre of Excellence project has once again proven a track record of success, with three young athletes taking home gold medals in the most recent fixture.
Norfolk County Cross Country Championships were held in Thetford on Sunday 5th January with young runners from all over the county competing to represent the East of England. Connie Easter took home 1st place in the Girls U13, whilst Hattie Reynolds and Henry Jonas taking 1st place in the Girls U15 and Boys U15 races respectively.
All three will now represent the East of England in the prestigious London Mini Marathon races which precede the London Marathon on Sunday 26th April 2020
A further 17 athletes from the endurance squad competed in the Championships, from which a number will be selected to compete for Norfolk in the National Inter County XC Championships, held in Loughborough at the beginning of March.
The project offers young people, aged 11-14 years from a number of North Norfolk’s secondary schools, specialist coaching in order to hone their sporting abilities. The top-class coaching being offered in netball, hockey, cricket and endurance running has led to a number of successes, with local young athletes excelling in their respective sports.
