Following the recent announcement that North Walsham has been awarded a package of over £3 million to regenerate its Historic Centre, the town now has a chance to bid for a share of cultural programming funding, and we would love your input to help shape the future of this vibrant town.

The cultural programming is part of a wider High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) scheme, which is aimed at making the high street a more attractive and engaging place for people to live, work and spend time. In addition to the buildings and townscape improvements taking place within North Walsham HSHAZ, the cultural programming will deliver a range of events and activities over the next four years that celebrate the history of our town centre and its importance to the community who use it.

The programme can include any form of cultural activity, from art and theatre to literature, music and dance, even fashion or cooking. Great culture should be accessible and welcoming for everyone, and it should celebrate what really makes each high street special.

A consortium of local groups has been formed to develop and deliver this programming on behalf of the community, but we need your support and ideas to make it happen!

Cllr Virginia Gay, NNDC's Portfolio Holder for Culture and Wellbeing, commented: "While the HAZ project will work to restitch the fabric of North Walsham's historic streets and buildings, the cultural programme will give the town the chance to tell the story of its past and present, its commercial life and creativity.  But above all, with your help, it will give us many occasions to enjoy and to remember."

Consortium leader Bob Wright of the North Walsham Heritage Group and Regenerate North Walsham said: “This fund will enable our town to create, produce and present a wide range of cultural activities that celebrate our rich heritage, of both places and people. We hope as many residents as possible will contribute to creating these.”

Working together, these projects give us an amazing opportunity to revive the town showcasing its unique historic character creating an attractive and thriving economic and cultural hub for residents, businesses and visitors.
