NNDC purchases industrial units in North Walsham

Date published: 26th January 2021
North Norfolk District Council is delighted to announce it has purchased three high quality industrial units in North Walsham and is seeking businesses interested in renting them.
The newly built units, located on Hornbeam Business Park opposite the successful Mulberry Grove Development and adjacent to the Bittern line, are smart in their aesthetic design and practical with a wide range of potential uses. Their location, so close to the town centre, train station and position on the main road to Norwich lends itself to great visibility and accessibility.
The District Council has purchased the units as an investment opportunity, creating a future revenue stream for the Council, but supports the Council’s Corporate Plan objectives of supporting business investment and growth through providing a much needed opportunity for local businesses to lease good quality modern business premises, which is a commodity that is currently scarce in our District and which the Council is keen to change.
Cllr Richard Kershaw, NNDC’s Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Growth, commented: “The purchase of these industrial units is key to supporting businesses in North Norfolk. There is a shortage of suitable industrial units, so when units come on the market it is important they are secured for the long term benefit of businesses and Council alike.
It is also good to see a local developer building this type of building speculatively to help fill the demand.”
Simon Gardener, Managing Director of Birchwood Building who developed the site, added: “Birchwood Building LTD were delighted to offer the opportunity to be involved with this exciting new development in North Walsham.
We are looking to develop Hornbeam Business Park as a commercial park with numerous business types in buildings with a fresh, modern design.
Phase 1 was completed in November 2019 and Screwfix were keen to be the first onto the development and have been a success story for North Walsham in employment and services offered.
Phase 2 was completed in December 2020 and comprises of five industrial units, which are already pre-sold or let showing an appetite and requirement for these types of industrial units in North Walsham.”
Internally the units will be left in shell-condition ready for end-user fit out but mains 3 phase power, gas, water and sewer connections will be available and the developer will be able to quote for bespoke fitting out work/mezzanine installation as required.
