At 7am, North Norfolk District Council and Everyone Active will welcome eager swimmers, ‘gym-ers’ and spinners to North Norfolk's state-of-the-art new leisure facility.

Users will be able to enjoy the main pool, the learner pool, the 60-station gym, the group cycling studio and the 200sqm dance and activities studio.

The six-lane, 25m main pool is built to Sport England’s high standards and will support a range of aquatic activities from competitive swimming events to inflatable play sessions for children, which will be available soon.

From users that prefer a more athletic or leisurely lane swim, to parents with children who want to play, the pool caters for everyone.

The pool will be accessible via shallow steps with an assisting handrail and a Poolpod for pool users who require a wheelchair. The Poolpod will be supported by a wheelchair storage zone near the Changing Places facility and a dedicated pool-side wheelchair for disabled users to transfer to, which is compatible with the Poolpod.

The 13m pool has a moveable floor, which allows the water depth to be changed for different activities and user groups such as swimming lessons, water confidence and toddler sessions and aqua fit exercise classes.

The dance and activities studio offers opportunity for group exercise classes and studio sessions.

In the group cycling studio, users will be able to take part in sessions around the world, with an instructor leading the classes. The 23 stations allow a range of classes, varying in intensity and distance.

Users will be able to book classes through Everyone Active soon.

Stuart Jardine, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said:

“We are within touching distance of opening and are so excited to welcome the public to this outstanding facility.

“The Reef caters for all ages, abilities and interests and will be a centre for the local community to be truly proud of.”

Cllr. Virginia Gay, portfolio holder for Leisure, Culture and Wellbeing said:

“Not so very long ago, in the summer of 2019, North Norfolk District Council made the decision to carry on with the construction of a new leisure centre for our District.

We wanted to make something truly special, the likes of which North Norfolk has never had before, and now here we are, about to open, about to welcome our first visitors to The Reef.

It's the day we've all been looking forward to - we can’t wait to share it with you.”

The Reef is the largest leisure offering in North Norfolk and represents an investment of £11m from North Norfolk District Council, alongside a grant of £1m from Sport England and the Lottery Fund.

The flagship project will improve the health and wellbeing of residents in North Norfolk for years to come, providing services and support which may not be readily available in the District.

In designing the facility, the demographic of North Norfolk, visitor/user patterns and population trends were taken into account, making The Reef representative of leisure and fitness in North Norfolk now, and in the future.

Leisure and Localities Manager Karl Read explains more:

Prior to facility's construction, the economic value of Leisure in North Norfolk was £24m; with the opening of The Reef, the economic value will be raised to £26.
