Business Grant applications and payments UPDATE - 17 April 2020

Businesses who completed their online grant request by Wednesday 15 April and passed our validation checks have all now been paid but please note it can take 3 working days for the money to show in your account.

If you have not received your payment it may be that we have been unable to verify your details and we are working hard to contact all customers to go through these details and will be in contact with you shortly

Where payments have been authorised we have confirmed this by email to the address provided with your claim.

Online submissions received after Wednesday 15 April will be paid 3 working days after passing the validation checks.

The Chancellor recently announced 2 grant schemes that will allow businesses affected by the Coronavirus a one-off grant payment of between £10,000 and £25,000.

Scheme 1- Small Business Rate Relief Support Grant

All businesses in receipt of small business rates relief, regardless of sector, will qualify for a cash payment of £10,000. This is an increase on the £3,000 originally announced in the Budget on the 11 March 2020.

Properties included in this scheme are those which on the 11 March 2020 qualified for relief under the Small Business Rate Relief Scheme. This includes those with a Rateable Value between £12,000 and £15,000 which receive a percentage reduction on a reducing scale depending on their rateable value.

Properties that were not eligible for a percentage reduction under the business rate Small Business Rate Relief Scheme and were therefore only receiving the small business rate relief multiplier are excluded and not entitled to the grant.

Hereditaments which on 11 March 2020 qualified for relief under the rural rate relief scheme will also qualify for this scheme.

Eligible business can claim a grant under one scheme per property.

Scheme 2 - Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Business Grants

Properties which on the 11 March 2020 had a rateable value of less than £51,000 and would have qualified for a discount under the business rates Expanded Retail Discount Scheme which covers retail, hospitality and leisure are eligible for this grant.

Eligible businesses in these sectors with a property that has a rateable value of up to and including £15,000 will receive a grant of £10,000,

Eligible businesses in these sectors with a property that has a rateable value of over £15,000 and less than £51,000 will receive a grant of £25,000.

Businesses with a rateable value of £51,000 or over are not eligible for this scheme.

Eligible business can claim a grant under one scheme per property.

Exclusions to the scheme

Business which as of the 11 March 2020 were in liquidation or were dissolved will not qualify.

Any changes to a properties rateable value or new entries into the rating list after the schemes qualifying date of the 11 March 2020. This includes any backdated amendments which will be ignored and will not qualify for the grant.

Properties that are occupied for personal uses such as:

  • private stables and loose boxes
  • beach huts, moorings
  • car parks and parking spaces
