Now open for nominations
The Gambling Act 2005 requires that Licensing Authorities review their Gambling Licensing Policy (Statement of Principles) every three years.
As our current policy expires on 31 January 2019 we need to review it and this includes completing a public consultation on the new document.
The Policy must set out the principles which we propose to apply in exercising our licensing functions under the Act. Our Policy document is based on Local Government Regulation’s (LGR) original good practice template with amendments made to include local procedures.
Section 349(3) of the Act requires the Licensing Authority to consult on its Statement of Principles with the police, those who represent the interests of gambling businesses in their area and those which represent interested persons likely to be affected.
It should be noted that the Statement of Principles produced is focused on ‘high level’ policy and does not set out the application processes, decision-making procedures, etc.
The Gambling Policy consultation
The consultation period begins on 5 July 2018 and you are invited to comment on the draft Gambling Licensing Policy document by 3 September 2018. After reading the draft policy please email any comments to email@example.com.
Any comments you make should include your name, any organisation or persons you may be responding on behalf of and your address. It would also be helpful if you would give a brief description of any specific interest you have in gambling matters, if applicable (for example, you may be involved in some capacity with existing gambling premises or vulnerable person’s/children’s groups). All comments received, including names and addresses, will be made public via Council agendas and this website.
At the end of the consultation period any comments received will be considered and the Policy will be amended as necessary before being approved by Full Council. The final Policy Statement will be published by 3 January 2019 and will take effect on 31 January 2019.
We look forward to receiving your comments.
