Clinical Waste Collections

North Norfolk District Council provides a service for the collection of human hygiene and clinical waste which requires the use of specially marked yellow sacks and/or sharps boxes. This service would be suitable for nursing homes, residential homes, beauty salons and tattooists.

Commercial and prescribed clinical waste must not be mixed with other rubbish and must be disposed of in accordance with the regulations listed in the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and The Controlled Waste Regulations 1992.

Types of Clinical Waste:

  • Group A: All human tissue including blood soiled dressings, swabs and other soiled waste from treatment areas.
  • Group B: Used hypodermic needles.
  • Group E: Incontinence pads, colostomy bags, used disposable bedpans and bedpan liners.

Please note we cannot collect Group D (drugs and pharmaceuticals).

This service is free for domestic use but the following charges apply for businesses:

2008/9 Commercial Clinical Charges:

Group B Waste £7.76 per box delivered
Group E Waste £1.96 per sack delivered
Incineration Charge (A/B Waste) £1.40 per sack/box incinerated
Disposal Charge (E Waste) £0.70 per sack disposed of
Collection Charge £18.68 per visit

Markings:

All Group A and E waste should be securely contained in the sacks provided. The sacks areclearly identified with markings on both sides as follows:

  • Group A: 'Clinical Waste for Incineration Only'
  • Group E: Black stripes
