Food Waste Collections

North Norfolk District Council's Food Waste Collection Service will allow you to make further savings by removing more waste from your residual bins.

• Collection
  Will be from 240ltr Brown Bins.
  We will provide a 40ltr storage container and 4 compostable sacks per week to help you collect your food waste.

  Collections will be on a weekly basis.
  Traders can have as many bins as they need, paying per lift of each bin.

  that all food waste is handled safely, efficiently and legally
  
  
• This service is initially a trial
  and to start with the material may be landfilled.
  As soon as a composting facility is available locally this waste will be composted

Food Waste Collection Service Details

By signing up to North Norfolk District Council's food waste collection service you can save money on your current and future waste costs. Please note that this service is being set up as a trial and, to start with, your food waste may be taken to landfill due to a lack of suitable local sites to compost the material.


Due to a need to reduce the amount of biodegradable waste being sent to landfill, we are committed to moving towards recycling all of your food waste as soon as it is economically and environmentally viable to do so. By offering the service from April 2008, we will be able to build a customer base and move towards recycling your food waste by transporting it to a composting facility, hopefully starting in late 2008. This is reliant upon a facility being available at that time.

A great value service

• The cost is £4.24 per lift of a 240ltr brown bin (an annual cost of £220.48 for a weekly collection). For prescribed customers, the cost is £3.29 per lift. These costs are excluding VAT.
  
  
• This cost is lower than the cost for residual (grey bin) waste collections, so will save you money.
  
  
• A 40ltr Kitchen Caddy and 4 compostable sacks per week are included within the price. Please note that if you require extra compostable sacks these can be purchased from North Norfolk District Council. Only compostable sacks will be accepted within the brown bin.
  
  
• No bin hire charges.

Extra compostable sacks can be purchased from North Norfolk District Council for £1.50 per roll of 10

Accepted food waste:

All food waste, for example -

Cooked and raw food
Meat, fish and bones
Bread, pasta and rice
Vegetable/fruit waste and egg shells
Dairy products
Tea bags and coffee grounds
Newspaper to wrap food waste
Food contaminated cardboard and shredded paper (in small amounts)

NOT to be included:

Specified Offal (Category 1)
Plastic packaging
Non compostable plastic bags
Other general waste
