Supporting Communities

Supporting Communities Team - North Norfolk District Council

So what are we here for?

We have been set up to support the development of communities. We want more people to become actively involved in their neighbourhoods and we help people to influence what happens in their community. We do this by:

· Listening to what it is you want from your community

· Helping communities to agree on the most important things to tackle first

· Giving advice on where to go for money, grants and other support to make things happen

· Identifying other organisations who may be able to help

· Supporting individuals and communities in influencing decisions

· Making it easier for you to talk to the right person in the council.

What does this mean in practice?

We work with a wide range of partners. These include communities, voluntary and community organisations and other public sector agencies like, for example, the Police and the Health Care Trust.

Here are some of the things we are currently involved in:

· Preparing the community safety strategy to reduce crime

· Organising Community Action days

· Playing an active part in the North Norfolk Community Partnership

· Supporting Area Forums and Area Partnerships

· Working with Young People getting them involved in the council and the shaping and delivery of services.

· Consulting with local people

· Working with new groups to help them establish themselves.

I also work with communities to support them to increase the healthier lifestyle opportunities and choices available to them.
