Holt Country Park Here you can find NNDC's programme of family fun days in some of our finest parks and woodlands and most beautiful beaches for 2013.

Please note: open fires and bbqs are not permitted on any site managed or owned by NNDC.

Water rockets. Thursday 1st August. 10am to 12 noon Make a rocket and fire it into space.Looking at stars and the planets you find in space. Please bring an empty plastic 2 litre fizzy pop bottle. £2 per child.
Woodland survival skills for kids Thursday 1st August 1.30pm to 3.30pm £2 per child.
Lost in the jungle; shelter building. Tuesday 20th August 10am to 1pm. Can you survive in the woods? Bring a picnic. Lunch not provided. £3 per child

Sheringham Beach Tuesday 6 August 2013 1.30pm to 3pm Creatures in our sea Beach scavenger hunt. Make your favorite sea creature from pebbles. How to help protect your beach and the sea animals. Free entry. Please meet the rangers at the car park by the Crown Pub.
West Runton beach Wednesday August 7th 2013 2.00pm to 4.00pm Rock pooling for monsters Learn to rock pool. Different creatures that live in the sea. Also looking at fish and crustacean species that live off our shores. Free entry. Please bring a net and bucket. Wear shoes with grips. Please meet the rangers on the sea wall by the beach; they will be wearing green t shirts.

Sculpture building using woodland material. Thursday 25th July 10am to 12 noon. Outdoor art workshop with local sculptor Mike Thody and the rangers £2 per child.
Muddy Boots Volunteers Thursday 25th July 2pm to 4pm. Practical Woodland management skills for kids. Learn how to look after a wood and its wildlife.

With practical conservation work. Wildlife study. Refreshments provided.

Pirate trail and treasure hunt Monday 12th August 1.30pm to 3.30pm Can you find the pirates treasure? Prize for every pirate £2 per child
Fun Day Out Thursday 15th August 10.00am to 4.00pm Activities, mini beast hunt, tai chi, Nordic walking, arty wildlife, survival shelters, sport activities, bouncy castle, storytelling, archery, family trail, face painting, fun run. Tea and coffee for sale. £3 per child. Adults free.
Toddler day Tuesday 27th August 10am to 12 noon

Mammals in the wood. Thursday 29th August 10am to 12 noon Studying mammals that live in the countryside. Looking at mammals signs and tracks. Habitats and behavior. Ranger led activity. £2 per child.

Bacton Wood events start from the main car park. Please wait for rangers or group leaders to guide you. Only enter wood if you know exact location of event. For all events, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Under 2s gain free entry to events, unless stated otherwise. We advise you to bring pushchairs for tiny tired feet. Please wear suitable outdoor clothes. Please keep dogs on leads during events. Post code NR28 9UE.

There are no toilets at Bacton Wood, however North Walsham town is less than 5 minutes drive away.


Holt Country Park events start from the Visitor Centre. Please wait for the rangers or group leaders. Do not enter wood unless you know exact location of event. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please keep dogs on leads during events. We advise you to bring pushchairs for tired tiny feet. Please wear suitable outdoor clothes. Post code NR25 6SP.


Sadler's Wood is located in North Walsham, between Chestnut Avenue (off Brick kiln road) and Happisburgh road on the eastern edge of North Walsham.  Parking not provided.  No toilets or facilities.  Please meet the rangers at the bottom of the playing field. Post code NR28 9XZ.

Beach events

  • For ALL events children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Rangers will be wearing dark green shirts
  • Please dress accordingly and wear sunscreen.
  • Please note there will be a charge for parking.
  • Please wear shoes or wellies that have a grip, suitable for walking on beaches.
  • Dogs are not permitted in the blue flag areas on the beach.
