Coastwise Café Round Up
Date published: 2 December 2025
Since 2024, across North Norfolk nearly 500 people have taken part in conversations led by Coastwise about our coastal communities. The drop-in meetings – dubbed Coastwise Cafés – have generated lots of ideas around ways to we can communicate, identified community concerns, and provided a focus for future project activities.

The drop-in format with a café-style setting has allowed us to have meaningful conversations with attendees in a safe place where everyone can express their opinions and concerns.
These events have taken place in Weybourne, Sheringham, West Runton, Overstrand, Trimingham, Bacton, Walcott and Happisburgh.
People have told us about what’s really important to them including:
- Housing
- Cliff-top water management and drainage
- Infrastructure
- Beach access
- Financial options
- Roads and local connectivity
- Churches and graveyards
The information we've collected at drop-ins has helped the team identify key areas to highlight for the project, set priorities and develop coastal transition options.
The key issues raised by our communities are included in the Coastwise Café reports and are informing the Coastal Transition Plans. These Coastal Transition Plans are being developed to better prepare coastal communities in North Norfolk for accelerating coastal erosion and flood risk. The plans will also offer guidance for other places around the United Kingdom.
