case study
North Norfolk Community Transport is a registered charity supporting those in North Norfolk who are without their own transport and unable to use public transport, either because of ill health, disability or because there is no service meeting their needs.
As part of the commitment to lowering the environmental impact of its activities, the charity has worked with environment charity Groundwork to measure their emissions and put in place a decarbonisation plan.
One of the key measures that was explored by Groundwork was to upgrade the charity’s diesel vehicles to electric equivalents. The cost and carbon savings calculations highlighted significantly reduced running costs and a reduced carbon footprint. The charity was then able to use Groundwork’s report to support an application for grant funding for an electric minibus.
The benefits and advantages of moving to electric minibuses include:
North Norfolk Community Transport received a Decarbonisation Plan from Groundwork’s Sustainable Business Services team which calculated the charity’s carbon footprint and explored several carbon reduction actions which could be introduced to reduce their environmental impact.
Groundwork East is delivering the North Norfolk Net Zero Advice service and grant programme on behalf of North Norfolk District Council, accessing UK government funding through the Shared Prosperity Fund.

Our Trustees have pledged to develop a sustainability strategy for the organisation and to reduce any negative impact on the environment. Groundwork’s support has really helped us to move this forward and to access grant funding to support our move to electric vehicles. We have also been able to publish our carbon footprint on our website to share with our stakeholders.Jane Bishop,
