Modern slavery is often hidden, but there are usually signs. Learn how to spot the signs and report concerns.

Modern slavery is a hidden crime that can happen anywhere - even here in North Norfolk. It can affect people from all backgrounds, though some are more at risk due to financial hardship, social isolation, poor health, age, or immigration status.

Victims of modern slavery may be forced to work in local hospitality or agriculture, in domestic settings as cleaners or carers, or be exploited through criminal activity such as shoplifting or drug cultivation. This exploitation can happen in towns, villages, and even rural areas across the district.

Control and abuse may be obvious or subtle. Victims may be threatened with violence or with being reported to immigration authorities to keep them silent and compliant.

Human trafficking is often part of modern slavery. It involves moving people - either internationally or within the UK - to exploit them for profit.
