Once again, North Norfolk enjoys being recognised as a place with high quality bathing water, including our six Blue Flag Beaches.

All six of our Blue Flag beaches are classified as ‘excellent,’ meaning the Council can apply for the Blue Flags status at Cromer, East Runton, Mundesley, Sea Palling, Sheringham and West Runton again in 2022.

The classifications are based on data collected by the Environment Agency and will be officially in place for this year. It means the beaches are well placed ahead of applications to renew their Blue Flag awards, with water quality one of the key measures under the Blue Flag scheme among other criteria such beach cleanliness and habitat monitoring.

Cllr Virginia Gay, NNDC’s Portfolio Holder for Culture and Wellbeing, commented: “At North Norfolk District Council we're immensely proud of our six Blue Flag beaches. They are quite an achievement. But we're already thinking of next year when we hope to be reporting the same cheering news to our residents and visitors, plus maybe one day we'll have seven Blue Flag beaches to report.”
