At Full Council, North Norfolk District Council established a budget for Climate Change & Net Zero transition.

Climate Change & Net Zero activities will have a budget of £500,000, with funds ringfenced for decreasing the Council’s carbon footprint and the funding of projects focused around saving energy and reducing future costs.

The Council is currently in the process of retrofitting its estate to raise their energy efficiencies, such as recent activities at Sheringham Little Theatre and the Cornish Way Industrial Units in North Walsham.

Cllr Adam Varley, North Norfolk District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Net Zero, commented:

“I am really pleased that this Council now has a dedicated budget for this area, and this is a real step change in the council’s mission to achieve net zero.

NNDC is focused on the climate emergency and Net Zero 2030 target. This budget is a real boost to our commitment and will allow us to focus on projects that decrease our carbon footprint.”

Cllr Tim Adams, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, added:

“We are making good progress in decarbonisation across our estate and through implementing innovation such as the solar carport at The Reef.”

We aim to keep up this momentum and lead the way in North Norfolk by example.

Having declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has since pledged to achieve net zero by 2030, the Council established a dedicated team and portfolio holder for climate change and net zero activities.
