Sections of Mundesley Beach will remain closed to the public over Easter weekend for safety reasons following a sewage leak on March 19 which affected water and beach quality.

The leak was caused due to an unforeseen failure of an Anglian Water pipe at Mundesley Pumping Station adjacent to the Mundesley Independent Lifeboat Station, which has been repaired.

The Council has been working with the water company to monitor water quality around the beach following the leak and sampling is being undertaken to establish the current position.

Sand sampling is also being undertaken on the beach to ensure it is safe for the public to visit.

Residents and visitors are asked to stay away from the areas of the beach shaded red in the attached map until further notice. Signage is also in place on location advising the public which areas are closed.

A spokesperson for North Norfolk District Council, said:

“We are still awaiting test results to confirm the beach and sea are completely safe for visitors to enjoy – we thank residents and visitors for their patience until such time as we are able to fully re-open this popular beach.”
