Work is underway for the Mundesley and Cromer Coastal Management Schemes following the setting up of site compounds - contractors Balfour Beatty have now commenced with the programme at both locations.

Mundesley Coastal Management Scheme:

Preparations for the concrete work began on Mundesley promenade, just below Lucy’s Café, on Tuesday 19 March where Balfour Beatty began to prepare the site ahead of the concrete pour.

The breaking ground moment marked the first steps in the Mundesley Coastal Management Scheme.

The concrete pour began on Tuesday 16 April, at Frontage 2B – the area just below the café, down the steps to the beach. Concreting will last roughly 12 weeks in this area, weather dependant, at a pace of 2-3 pours a week.

This work is called Seawall Encasement, a method of future-proofing the existing seawall apron which is a section of concrete in front of the seawall, which adds a layer of protection, for when beach levels lower in the future.

Cromer Phase 2 Coastal Management Scheme

The Runton Road Car Park compound is nearly fully set up and will be completed from the week commencing Monday 22 April.

The rest of the Runton Road car park will be available for members of the public to use.

From the week commencing Monday 22 April, work will begin on the East Promenade, near the Fisherman’s Ramp. In this location, a method called sheet piling will be used to create an apron.

Phase 2 of the Cromer Coastal Management Scheme will also include approximately 300 metres of rock revetment west of the pier and repair works to groynes, navigation aids and additional sea wall protection.

The two schemes have received approximately £25m of funding from the Environment Agency with North Norfolk District Council, Anglian Water and Mundesley Parish Council also contributing towards the Mundesley Scheme.

The two schemes will take approximately 12-18 months to complete, with contractors Balfour Beatty delivering the construction works on behalf of Coastal Partnership East and North Norfolk District Council.
