North Norfolk District Council is progressing plans to build a car park on the un-used concrete site at North Lodge Park, following public consultation.

A proposed car park would see up to 46 spaces and would likely include a higher number of accessible parking.

To ensure that North Lodge Park has a future as a community space, the Council is exploring options to ring fence an annual stipend of this income from the Car Park to reinvest into the site.

A car park could generate up to £120,000 per year and ring fencing up to £50,000 a year of this income would mean that maintenance, development and improvement of North Lodge Park for many years to come.

This would enable options for more community-based events and could look like improvements to the existing play area, setting up infrastructure within the park to facilitate public events, which might include open air events and performances.

Cllr. Tim Adams, Cromer Councillor and Leader of the Council said:

“Thank you to everyone who responded to our consultation, we recognise that North Lodge Park is very special to local residents and visitors, and we will continue to explore how we can improve the site for years to come.

A car park would have the dual benefit of supporting the east end of Cromer, the businesses in North Lodge Park, Church Street and the surrounding area, as well as access to the beach and Rocket House café.

There were a few community suggestions for the wider site outside of the un-used plot and we would be happy to hear those expressions of interest and see how we can support those.”

The Council shares the public desires for the site and is committed to a future for North Lodge Park and previously proposed a regeneration project through a Levelling Up bid in 2021.
