Cabinet has agreed to pursue a tenancy with an NHS-backed dentist to take over the space that was previously the North Norfolk Visitor Centre.
The Dental Design Studio are a team of highly experienced practitioners who successfully bid to develop a new practice in the building which will have five surgeries, making NHS appointments more accessible to residents, in state of the art facilities.
The team are currently operating a practice nearby on West Street, which only has two surgeries and has issues with accessibility, being located upstairs. The proposed plan for the new building will all be ground-level, with accessible nearby parking in Meadow Road car park.
Dr. Jeff Sherer, Clinical Director of The Dental Design studios commented: “We’re very excited about this opportunity for Cromer, it’s going to be a brand-new, state of the art dental practice.
'We’re very experienced at running dental practices with 23 branches already, and it will be fantastic for the people of Cromer and Norfolk to have increased access to NHS dentistry.
'We’re also really pleased that the new premises will offer better access to disabled patients, with it all being on the ground floor.
The building itself is stunning, and we hope as a health care centre it will be somewhere that people are happy to go to.”
Cllr Tim Adams, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, added “We're delighted to have received this level of interest in the property so soon after the difficult decision to close the Visitor Information Centre.
'Increasing the availability of NHS dentistry appointments in North Norfolk is crucial, and we are pleased that the building will facilitate the growth of this vital service provision.”
The Dental Design Studio recently took over a clinic in North Walsham which now contains 6 surgeries, previously none
The Dental Design Studio are accepting registrations of interest from residents, with an expectation that the works required for the renovation of the existing building to be complete in Autumn.
The public toilets located in the same building will remain open to all.
Other proposals that were considered included a bakery, osteopath, and a real ale pub. The decision was taken that a dentist surgery would be the most financially sound option whilst also bringing significant benefits to the community.
