North Norfolk District Councillors and Council Officers joined members of the community in Fakenham to mark the start of major refurbishment works at the Fakenham Leisure centre, Wednesday October 15th.
The groundbreaking event marked the beginning of construction to deliver a brand-new swimming pool and improved gym & sports facilities.
The £11m project has been financed through a partnership between the UK Government and NNDC. The new Fakenham Leisure and Sports Hub will meet growing demand for modern inclusive facilities and is designed to be as energy efficient as possible with solar panels, heat pumps and EV charging capacity.
Councillor Liz Withington, Portfolio holder for Community, Leisure and Outreach said:
“It’s very much business as usual, but over the site we have got a great deal of work going on. We’re going to be constructing a completely new wing that’s going to contain the wet facility, new changing rooms and all the facilities you would expect in a modern up to date swimming pool.”
