Council welcomes new Fuel Finder initiative for electric vehicle charge transparency
Date published: 4th February 2026
North Norfolk District Council welcomes the new Department for Energy Security and Net Zero initiative, which encourages price transparency across forecourts and fuel providers.
The fuel costs for petrol, diesel and electric vehicle charging will be published and fed through third-party apps and websites like Fuel Finder UK, and show details for each fuel type and details by the forecourt.
GOV.uk itemises these updates as:
• current retail prices of all the petrol station by fuel type
• forecourt details (address, operator, brand)
• site amenities and opening hours
• update timestamps for each price and site
• Prices are published within 30 minutes of any change.
The initiative currently centres around petrol and diesel price transparency but the Council recognises this as an opportunity to advocate for accessible and standardised open data for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
According to Fuel Finder UK, the five fuel types are: Petrol (E10), Diesel (B7), Super Unleaded (E5), Premium Diesel and EV Charging.
This will empower drivers in North Norfolk to plan low-carbon journeys more easily and locate infrastructural gaps across the district.
Improving the visibility of electric vehicle charging points also supports the tourism economy by providing assurance for charging locations.
Cllr. Adam Varley, portfolio holder for Net Zero & Climate Change said:
“This is a very positive step for fuel transparency and should hopefully lead to less disparity in prices and much more visibility for electric charging points across North Norfolk
Up-to-date pricing has a huge benefit to vehicles operating on fossil fuels, but we recognise the potential for the region’s electric vehicle drivers looking for reliable statistics for where they can charge.”
