Second chance to submit sites for consideration in new Local Plan

North Norfolk District Council is reopening its Call for Sites and is inviting landowners, developers, agents, businesses, organisations and members of the public to suggest land that may be suitable for future development in North Norfolk.

The second Call for Sites period will run from Monday 20 July to Monday 31 August 2026. This follows an initial Call for Sites which took place between 1 June and 13 July 2026.

The Call for Sites forms part of the Council’s early work to prepare a new Local Plan for North Norfolk under the Government’s reformed plan-making system. It provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to suggest land that could be considered for a range of uses, including housing, employment, infrastructure, open space, community facilities and other uses.

The additional submission period will provide a further opportunity for anyone who was unable to submit a site during the first round, or who has identified additional land, to put sites forward for consideration.

Submitting a site does not mean it will automatically be allocated for development. All submitted sites will be assessed alongside other evidence and information to help inform decisions about how land should be used in the future.

The Local Plan guides decisions on planning applications and helps determine where development should take place across the district. It plays an important role in balancing the need for homes, jobs and infrastructure with the protection of North Norfolk’s environment, heritage and communities.

The current North Norfolk Local Plan was adopted in December 2025 and covers the period to 2040, but widespread changes to national planning legislation and policy means the Council is required to prepare a new Local Plan using the Government’s new plan-making framework. The new Local Plan will cover the period from 2029 to 2045 and should be adopted within a 30-month period as of 31 October 2026. As part of this process, the Council must consider a wide range of potential development opportunities to ensure that the new Local Plan is based on robust evidence and is capable of meeting future growth needs.

How to submit a site

The Call for Sites is being conducted online. Submissions must be completed through the Council’s dedicated website and will need to include information about the site and its potential use. Users will first be required to draw (plot) the site boundary on an online map.

To be accepted, site submissions must be:

• able to accommodate a minimum of five or more dwellings or be 0.25 hectares or more in size.
• submitted for each parcel of land (submission of multiple parcels of land will not be accepted).
