Chairman's charity raises £5,000 for Poppy the Wheelyboat
Date published: 20th May 2026
At this evening's Annual General Meeting, Cllr. Peter Fisher’s Chairmanship ended after a year of civic events and fundraising.
Cllr. Fisher’s chosen charity was the Norfolk Charitable Trust, who own Poppy, the North Norfolk Wheelyboat.
Poppy is North Norfolk’s only seafaring wheelchair accessible boat, specially designed to support people with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities. Her front bow lowers to create a ramp, allowing wheelchair users and passengers with limited mobility to be safely wheeled aboard with ease, removing barriers and creating an inclusive experience for all.
Operating from either Blakeney and Morston Quay, Poppy takes passengers out into the vast expanse of Blakeney Harbour, offering the opportunity to experience the beauty, wildlife, and open space of the Harbour in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
Trips aboard Poppy help to improve wellbeing, reduce social isolation, build confidence, and provide meaningful opportunities for connection with nature and others. The experience also offers respite for carers, families, and support workers, while creating positive shared memories and improving access to outdoor experiences that may otherwise not be possible.
Cllr. Fisher has been part of the Blakeney Old Wild Rovers since 1998, and with them, has managed to raise £5,000 for the Norfolk Charitable Trust, which will be put towards another brand-new accessible boat.

Taking over from Cllr. Peter Fisher as Chairman is Cllr. Matthew Taylor, who at 25 will be the youngest Chairman in North Norfolk District Councils 50 year history.
For his chosen charity fundraising over the next year, he will be raising money for North Norfolk's various Uniformed groups, such as the Scouts, Cadets, Guides etc.
Cllr. Kim Toye was elected as Vice-Chairman of the Council.
