Work to commence for Overstrand Coastal Management Scheme

Our contractor JN Bentley will begin arriving on site in Overstrand on the 7^th September to set up their site compound and prepare for the works. It is anticipated that they will begin the coastal works on the 14^th September.

Throughout the duration of the works, the west end zig zag slope to the promenade, as well as the far western beach access at the end of the promenade, will remain open to the general public.

The beach access ramp at the bottom of Clifton Way will also remain open during the works. It is anticipated that the entirety of the sea wall will be open at the weekends during the works.

The order of operations will be to complete the sheet piling and concreting works at the western end of the sea wall first.

During this phase the eastern zig zag slope will be closed, as will the promenade in this location. As such, at high tide there will be no access between the western and eastern sides of the promenade.

Whilst this work is underway, the contractors will track along the sea wall from their compound at the bottom of Clifton Way so there may be some disruption, although the beach huts will remain accessible via Clifton Way.

It is anticipated that these works will begin the week commencing the 14^th September. When this phase of work is completed, this area will be reopened.

Works will then begin on the eastern end of the promenade, in the area indicated in the below plan:

The beach huts adjacent to this location, due to the proximity of the works, will not be able to be used during this operation (but will be available at the weekends). NNDC will contact the beach hut owners.

NNDC have also made contact with the fisherman that launches from Overstrand, to make provision for launch and recovery, to keep disruption to a minimum.
