With disappointment, the Council has decided to cancel the Mammoth Marathon, which was due to take place in May 2023.

Mammoth Marathon's inaugural race was successfully held in 2022 after successive COVID lockdowns and was one of the district's few large-scale sporting events.

The number of running events since the COVID pandemic has increased, leading to more competing events of this nature being organised for 2023 in East Anglia and Norfolk.

The number of runners signing up for this year's event has been much lower than anticipated.

The Council shares the disappointment that runners who had signed up for the event, and supporters of the Mammoth Marathon, will feel towards this news but believes the only sensible option at this stage is to cancel the event, giving participants as much notice as possible.

Runners who have signed up to participate have been contacted to apologise and offer them a full refund on their entry fee.

Participants do not need to request a refund, which will be processed automatically. We will work with our booking partner Race Roster to process these as quickly as possible.
