North Walsham awarded funding to regenerate its historic high street

North Norfolk District Council has secured an award of £975,000 from Historic England’s High Street Heritage Action Zone scheme to renew and revive North Walsham’s historic town centre.

North Walsham is about to embark on an exciting scheme to renew its historic town centre. Driven by the local community, North Norfolk District Council spearheaded successful funding applications securing a package of over £3 million investment for the period to 2024. The funding secured through Historic England is complemented by additional New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) investment and supported by North Norfolk District Council.

The programme is designed to secure lasting improvements for the town’s historic core and communities who use it.

The successful programme was devised with the support of a strong local partnership between North Walsham Town Council, Regenerate North Walsham (RNW CIC) and the wider community. Consultation and engagement will continue throughout the programme. There  will be a range of both physical interventions (public realm improvements and building improvements) as well as community led programming to bring the town’s rich history and stories to life.
